The Kumano Kodo, Japan

A journey of Spirt and Quiet

A Journey of Spirit and Quiet

For over a thousand years, people have walked the misty, forested trails of the Kii Peninsula. The Kumano Kodo is a sister-trail to the Camino de Santiago, but it feels like a different world. It’s a place of towering cedar forests, hidden stone statues, and ancient shrines that seem to emerge right out of the landscape.

We’re inviting you to join us on the Nakahechi route—the "Imperial Route." It is a stunning walk, but it is also a quiet one. We move through the heart of Japan’s spiritual heritage, ending our days in traditional family-run inns (minshuku) with a hot soak in an onsen and incredible local food.

The Rhythm of the Trail

A typical day on the Kumano Kodo is defined by simple, rewarding rhythms. We spend our mornings on the trail, moving through the dappled light of the cedar forests and stopping at ancient shrines along the way.

We handle all the logistics—the route, the traditional lodgings, and your luggage transfers—so you don't have to carry the "how." You can focus entirely on the walk.

In the afternoons, we arrive at our family-run inn. You'll have time for a traditional onsen soak to soothe your muscles before we gather for a meal of fresh, local ingredients prepared by our hosts. It is a shared journey that values both the movement of the day and the stillness of the evening.
